Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, one of the most successful basketball coaches in history, once boiled down the secret of success to a single word: passion.
“I define passion as extreme emotion,” Coach K said. “When you are passionate, you always have your destination in sight and you are not distracted by obstacles. Because you love what you are pursuing, things like rejection and setbacks will not hinder you in your pursuit. You believe that nothing can stop you!”
The great Coach K comes to mind when people ask about careers at Worldwide Express, and for good reason. We at Worldwide Express like to think our standards are similar to those he has upheld, ideals such as integrity, credibility, dedication, dependability – and opportunity.
Welcome to the Career Express Blog
As we launch Career Express, a new portal aimed at helping college graduates just starting their careers, we want to spend some time talking about those ideals, what our company stands for and why Glassdoor.com recently ranked Worldwide Express No. 1 on the list of best companies to work for.
Let’s start with the basics: What is WWE? Founded in 1995, Worldwide Express is among the nation’s largest resellers of UPS® services to small and midsize businesses. We help those businesses get the same level of transportation and logistics service as Fortune 500 companies by offering custom solutions, an unsurpassed carrier portfolio and a local presence with more than 150 franchises from coast to coast. More than 30,000 customers trust us with their most important deliveries, and trust is everything in the transportation industry.
Now let’s talk about people. WWE is a non-asset based transportation provider, so people are our real assets from top to bottom. We have a lot of fun together, but we expect everyone at Worldwide Express to operate at the highest level of integrity at all times, strengthening the trust that means everything in the transportation field.
Intense Training
But we don’t throw you in the deep end without training. In fact, our rigorous training program is nationally recognized, starting with basic sales and account management training held at the corporate office in Dallas. For account executives, comprehensive training covers everything from product knowledge to making effective sales presentations. Account managers learn from A-to-Z how to manage and maintain both light package and freight customers. We like to say you’ll get three years of work experience in one year of training.
You’ll leave our version of boot camp ready to make an immediate impact in your local market. But the training doesn’t end there, and it’s not uncommon that successful employees are soon enrolled in management training, where there’s a heavy focus on business planning and revenue and profitability management. One of the things new employees notice is how quickly many of their bosses rose through the ranks.
Make no mistake: Those bosses didn’t earn their stripes without serious commitment, focus and hard work. As Coach K says, it’s all about passion. Hang around WWE for any length of time and you’ll appreciate a culture that values optimism, accountability, teamwork and resilience while leaving no room for pessimism or mediocrity.
With Dedication Comes Achievement
If you are dedicated enough, focused enough and strong enough there is almost no ceiling on what you can accomplish.
As one employee in the Glassdoor survey said, “You get out what you put in. I am constantly challenged to do my absolute best, day in and day out. This is the most rewarding job I have ever had. If you are committed and passionate about your career, this is a great opportunity.”
Working at Worldwide Express is a little like playing for Coach K at Duke. Individuals arrive. They work harder than they ever have, to an exacting standard of integrity and conviction. In the end, they’re forged as an unbeatable team.
If you have the right stuff, Worldwide Express might be right for you. And then, as Dr. Seuss promised in his final, classic poem Oh! The Places You’ll Go, there’s no telling how high you will climb.
“Today is your day!” Seuss writes. “Your mountain is waiting. So … get on your way!”
